An endorsement is a credential provided by the University Institute for Teaching and Learning (UITL) to reward and identify faculty who pursue excellence in teaching by participating in professional learning programs at The Ohio State University.

Ohio State faculty, staff and graduate students may receive an endorsement upon meeting the specific requirements of each program. To get started, express your intent to participate in your chosen endorsement, then upon completion of sufficient program elements, submit your application.

UITL partners across the university create and host endorsements. UCAT is currently hosting two endorsements, but more will be added throughout the year. See below for details on our current endorsements.

    • Course Design Institute Endorsement

Most university instructors have a great deal of experience with student-teacher interaction and many have received some preparation for that element of teaching. However, very few have any structured, formal preparation for designing significant, effective, and assessable learning opportunities. The Course Design Institute endorsement provides that preparation through an intensive multi-part workshop in which instructors, with hands-on guidance from UCAT staff, focus on designing or redesigning a specific course. UCAT’s Course Design Institute (CDI) provides participants with the tools, time and support they need as they work to build or rebuild effective, student-centered courses.

  • Inclusive Teaching Endorsement

College classrooms are one of the few places in an increasingly polarized world where students have to engage with different perspectives over time. This learning environment can be an opportunity for transformative learning experiences, directly correlated with motivation, engagement and achievement (Zumbrunn et al. 2014). Many teachers, however, feel underprepared to foster meaningful discourse or support a diverse student body. Inclusive teaching describes the range of approaches to teaching that creates a learning environment where all students feel valued and have equal access to learning. This endorsement will allow you to explore issues and tools for creating inclusive learning environments.
