As a member of The Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute faculty, I want my students to play a major role in determining what they want to learn and how they want to learn it. To that end, I use student-centered learning in establishing the course syllabus and in the presentation of all materials in the courses that I facilitate.

Once the syllabus is determined, students take an active role in presenting material they wish to learn to the class. We base our course on the KWL philosophy, which is “What I Know”; “What I want to learn”; and at the end of the quarter, “What I did Learn.”

Students are encouraged to work with one another in order to establish a community of learners throughout the quarter that will then solidify their connection for the remainder of the time they are at the Institute.
