Professor Hayward is a member of the Political Science faculty, who specializes in political philosophy and contemporary political theory. In her classes, students engage philosophical (and other) works, in an effort to grapple with fundamental questions of politics, such as "What is power and how does it shape human lives?" (PLSC H565, "Power and Resistance") or "What is democracy, why should we value it, and how can we democratize political practices and institutions?" (PLSC 571, "Political Theories of Democracy.") Hayward's classes place a premium on the careful reading of political philosophical texts, and on active student participation in discussion.
