Timothy Gerber serves as Professor of Music at The Ohio State University where he teaches undergraduate courses in secondary (middle and high school) general music methods and supervises vocal/general student teachers at the secondary level. He also teaches graduate courses in Philosophical Foundations, Materials and Techniques of Teaching, and the Content and Structure of the Related Arts. Each year, he teaches as a volunteer in the Columbus Public Schools; most recently, he served on the staff at the Arts Impact Middle School. He is a co-author of Music! Its Role and Importance in Our Lives, a comprehensive high school music text and twenty-CD collection published in its 2nd edition (2000) by Glencoe/McGraw-Hill.
As an OSU professor, Gerber writes: "my primary passions are music teacher education and the creation of classroom resource materials. Whether working with undergraduate, pre-service teachers or with experienced, graduate-level practitioners, I am committed to the improvement of general music teaching—especially in secondary schools. My particular research interests lie in figuring out how teachers might reach out more effectively to adolescents in urban schools. The ultimate goal of these efforts is to help teachers bring out the best in their pupils through the development and delivery of engaging curriculum materials. "
