Veterans Lunch Series at Ohio State
Monthly Veterans Lunches at the Faculty Club are open to all Ohio State faculty, staff, and students and are a good place for teachers and/or students to get their questions answered.

Veterans Affairs
This site has information for teachers and students on military leave policies, employment policies, and Affirmative Action Plan for Veterans.

Office of Human Resources Veterans Affairs
The Office of Human Resources supports our nation’s veterans with affirmative action assistance for covered veterans; employee relations support for all faculty and staff veterans; enrollment certification for student veterans in the GI Bill program; all campus veteran activities to foster a positive campus and community atmosphere.

Affirmative Action
In accordance with the new Jobs for Veterans Act, U.S. military veterans who received the Armed Forces Service Medal are now eligible for affirmative action consideration in employment and advancement. This new category joins Disabled Veterans, Campaign Badge Holders, and Recently Discharged Veterans as part of the university’s Affirmative Action Plan/Program for Veterans.

2006 for Disabled Veterans Affirmative Action Program (DVAAP)
From the federal Office of Personnel Management: an affirmative action program for the recruitment, employment, and advancement of disabled veterans. Each year, agencies must submit DVAAP accomplishment reports to describe agency efforts to promote the maximum employment and job advancement opportunities for disabled veterans as well as certain veterans of the Vietnam era and of the post-Vietnam era who are qualified for such employment and advancement.

Army Emergency Relief
A patriotic, war-time veterans organization, devoted to mutual helpfulness provides travel discounts, medical help, Dell computers, mobile phones, satellite TV, moving, career services, insurance assistance with membership.

Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States
Includes VFW membership benefits: personal assistance securing government benefits and entitlements; discounts on prescriptions, hotel and car rentals; membership in the Pentagon Federal Credit Union; real estate and mortgage services; Dell discount computers; insurance programs; long-term care; prescription drug plans, and more.

Ohio VFW Post Directory
This site has blogs supporting the VFW members, veterans, military personnel, and military families.

MVETS, Department of Ohio (American Veterans of World War II, Korea, and Viet Nam, Department of Ohio) providing career, training and employment assistance, including career assessment and exploration, training, licensing and certification assistance, resume writing and assistance with the job search process. AMVETS also provides free registration for hundreds of Internet-based training courses.

Army Emergency Relief
AER (a nonprofit organization) has information on: dependent children scholarship, oversea spouse education assistance program, stateside spouse scholarship assistance program, and additional links for college students as well as emergency financial assistance for both active and retired soldiers and their dependents.

Air Force Aid Society
This web site provides links to educational programs, emergency relief (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, and Navy) and American Red Cross chapters.

Student Resources/Scholarships

The Arnold Skurow Student Veteran Award (pdf)
A downloadable pdf from Ohio States’ Office of Human Resources: The Arnold Skurow Student Veteran Award Application Form. All Ohio State students receiving VA education benefits are invited to apply for this award. Each year, the OSU Veterans Advisory Board selects three to five student veterans to receive a scholarship.

GI Bill
From the Department of Veterans Affairs and includes benefit changes for reservists, information on the new student veterans association, and transferability of the GI Bill to dependents.

VFW Scholarships
Every year, hundreds of thousands of students participate in the Voice of Democracy Scholarship Competition and the Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest for more than $3.4 million in scholarships and incentives. In addition, the VFW honors an outstanding scout through the VFW Scout of the Year Scholarship program.

Dependent Children Scholarship Program (Army)
The MG James Ursano Scholarship Program is for dependent children of soldiers on federal active duty, retired, or deceased while in active or retired status.

Overseas Spouse Education Assistance Program (OSEAP) (Army)
This program is for spouses of active duty Army soldiers who reside with the soldier in their assigned overseas command – for the first undergraduate degree (bachelors’ degree).

Stateside Spouse Education Assistance Program (OSEAP) (Army)
This program is a need-based education assistance program designed to provide spouses/widows (ers) of active duty and retired Army soldiers residing in the United States, with financial assistance in pursuing educational goals.

Navy Marine Corps Relief Society
Navy Marine Corps education programs help eligible Navy and Marine Corps families pursue their academic goals by providing education financing. Awards are provided solely on the basis of the applicant’s financial need and availability of funds.
