This series is geared toward graduate students who will be pursuing a career in academia. Please feel free to attend any session that fits your interest and schedule!
September 6: The Academic Job Search – We’ll provide helpful tips for starting your job search, including where and how to look for openings and what materials need to be prepared.
September 13: Curriculum Vitae and Cover Letters - Learn how to create an effective vita and cover letter when applying for jobs in academia. We’ll emphasize format and content while highlighting career tips that will be useful when applying for positions with a teaching and/or research emphasis.
September 20: Teaching and Research Statements - We’ll provide an overview of teaching and research statements, describe how they are used in the academic job search process, and provide guidance on how to write them. There will be opportunities during the session to start the process of writing these statements.
September 27: The Interview – Learn what to do before, during, and after an interview for positions in academia. Emphasis will be on career strategies, interviewing techniques, and familiarity with academic interview expectations. Samples of questions and practice opportunities will be provided, as well as useful suggestions to enhance confidence skills.
